Description
When in fundamentally precarious and vulnerable relation with its surroundings, how can a body set itself in motion?
Continuing his investigation of resistant choreographic positionings, Michael Turinsky returns to Moving in November with the solo performance Precarious Moves. Both autobiographical and conceptual, Precarious Moves centers on questions of Turinsky’s personal as well as urgent collective needs and necessities concerning mobility and mobilization, from a physically disabled perspective.
Exploring the tensions between movement and environment, gesture and milieu, Turinsky opens our sensitivity beyond the standardized ideas of time, distance, and measure. The solo unfolds as ironic, intellectual, and playful, oscillating between the organic and the organized. It brings forth a searching movement – an exploration of the strange connection between the body and the sensuous world it moves through – in which the deviating gesture discovers its choreographic milieu.
Turinsky’s solo Work Body was presented in the frame of Moving in November in 2025 in Stoa.
The performance is part of Moving in November 5.–15.11.2026. As part of the festival, there will be an open Soup Talk Panel discussion with Turinsky and local host on the 13th of November at noon in Caisa.
Duration: 75min
Language: English with English subtitles
Inidividual tickets at 33 / 17 euros, sold at lippu.fi. Fesival passes available via Moving in November home page.

Michael Turinsky is a Vienna-based physically disabled artist. As choreographer, theorist, and curator, he is one of the most important disabled movement thinkers in the German-speaking world.
Academically trained as a philosopher at the University of Vienna, Turinsky began immersing himself in the world of inclusive dance in 2006. He later questioned the term inclusion and coined his own term ‘Crip Choreography’ to describe his unique artistic practice, which deals with the specific, resistant materiality of the body in processes of subversion, de-organisation and re-organisation of dominant movement forms and qualities.
His solo work Precarious Moves was awarded the prestigious Nestroy Prize for Best Off-Production in 2021. In 2023 he was honoured as ‘Outstanding Artist’ by the Austrian Ministry of Culture.
