Description
Composer and Pianist Iiro Rantala is probably the most internationally renowned Finnish jazz musician.
Rantala’s career began in the boisterous jazz band Trio Töykeät in the 1990s, and following its disbandment he has built an unparalleled solo career. The numerous solo albums he has released under the ACT label have made Rantala an internationally acclaimed and sought-after jazz musician who is well-known for his versatility and innovative approach, both as a composer and as an interpreter of music.
Iiro Rantala has studied classical piano at the Pop & Jazz Conservatory in Oulunkylä, the jazz department of Sibelius Academy and the Manhattan School of Music in New York, and he has received the Yrjö Prize and Pro Finlandia Medal, among other awards. His many ventures include everything from solo concerts to classical music, plays, musicals and composing operas.
Iiro Rantala’s music combines sensitivity and romanticism, but also fast-paced entertainment, witty humour and dazzling technical virtuosity!
During the evening at the Savoy Theatre, Iiro will perform some of the most popular songs of his solo career, such as Freedom, Pekka Pohjola and November. In between songs, he will share stories that may even contain elements of humour. Over the course of the evening, Saxophonist Jukka Perko and Actress Lotta Kuusisto – both long-time and close collaborators of Iiro – will join Iiro on the stage as guest performers.
Duration: roughly 2 h, including intermission.
The floor: R18 alcohol serving area. The gallery: no age restrictions, no alcohol serving.
