Description
The Metropolia Chamber Orchestra's concert features orchestral works ranging from late 18th-century Classicism and 19th-century High Romanticism to the present day.
Programme
Pyotr Tchaikovsky: Serenade for Strings op. 48
Domenico Cimarosa: Concerto for Two Flutes and Orchestra G major
I Allegro
II Largo
III Allegro ma non tanto
Ville Koponen: Syyskuvia (Autumn Pictures, world premiere)
Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s four-movement Serenade for Strings (1880) moves from the festive sonatina form of the first movement through a light waltz and a wistful theme to a finale based on Russian folk songs.
Domenico Cimarosa’s three-movement Concerto for Two Flutes and Orchestra (1793) radiates light, energy, thoughtfulness, and lively dance-like spirit. At the heart of the piece is the dialogue between the flutes.
Ville Koponen’s ”Syyskuvia” (Autumn Pictures, world premiere) reflects the shades of autumn: the vibrant foliage of trees, crisp clear mornings, darkening evenings – and the melancholy of summer’s end. Running through the piece is a folk-like theme that is alternately wistful and playful.
