This page lists outdoor places to skate: skating fields, hockey rinks, artificial ice rinks and speed skating tracks.
The types behave differently. A natural-ice field is frozen only once the frost has set in, so at the start of the season it may still be open water and the ice quality varies with the temperature. Artificial ice is mechanically frozen and lasts longer. A hockey rink is a fenced pitch built for hockey, and game times may be booked.
Artificial ice is found above all in the bigger cities, for example Helsinki, Espoo and Jyväskylä. Speed skating tracks are few across the country, so if you want a long track, check the map for the nearest one.
The municipal pages list the rinks in one area, for example Tampere, Helsinki and Oulu.
